Project Curatorial Assistant | Photography
In March 2010, the Museum anticipates the opening of an exhibition of the works of Henri Cartier-Bresson. The expected timeframe for this project position is January 2009 through April 2010.
Assists senior curatorial staff in all areas such as acquisitions, collections records, bibliographic and biographical records and files, research for exhibitions and publications, departmental committees, loans, and general curatorial inquiries. Performs research for exhibition, including research on artists, periods, styles, etc., on specific works, on locations of works, on photograph sources, etc. Assists in arranging loans, in catalogue preparation, in the preparation of checklists and wall labels, and in coordinating and scheduling work to be done within the Museum and without in such areas as conversation, photography, public information, matting and framing, construction, lighting, etc. As directed, assists in fund raising. Reports to Chief Curator.
Requirements: Fluency in French (some German helpful). Familiarity with the work of Cartier-Bresson. Familiarity with the network of institutions and individuals involved with the work of Cartier-Bresson, which represents a wide range, from the world of photojournalism (notably including the Magnum agency) to the world of photography collectors and art magazines to the world of writers and intellectuals. Ability to establish a close productive relationship with the staff of the Foundation Henri Cartier-Bresson and with his family members. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of organization and attention to detail while handling a great variety of tasks in a busy environment.
